You've just been diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery. Until recently your options included traditional surgery with a large open incision or laparoscopy, which uses small incisions but is typically limited to very simple procedures.
Thanks to a breakthrough surgical technology at Valley, there is a new category of minimally invasive surgery for which you may be a candidate. It is an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy. Through the use of the da Vinci ® Surgical System, surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.
Imagine major surgery performed through the smallest of incisions. Imagine having the benefits of a definitive treatment but with the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities – as well as the potential for better clinical outcomes.
The da Vinci® Xi Surgical System
Valley is the first hospital in the area to acquire the next generation in cutting-edge robotic surgical technology, the da Vinci® Xi Surgical System. The da Vinci® Xi Surgical System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. It provides robotically trained surgeons with high definition 3-D visualization and intuitive motion and ergonomic design for unmatched precision during surgical procedures. It is used to treat a broad-spectrum of diseases, both benign and malignant, of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, hepatobiliary organs, lungs, urology and gynecology. It can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery.
In 2001, Valley was among the first hospitals in the country to adopt the first generation da Vinci robotic system for minimally invasive surgeries; over the years, the use of this technology has yielded excellent outcomes for many patients.
The da Vinci Surgical System
The Valley Hospital is proud to offer its surgeons and patients the da Vinci Surgical System, a breakthrough in surgical technology that allows for more surgical procedures to be performed using minimally invasive techniques than ever before.
The da Vinci Surgical System consists of a surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart, a high performance vision system and additional instruments. Using the da Vinci Surgical System, the surgeon operates while seated comfortably at a console viewing a three-dimensional image of the surgical field.
The surgeons’ fingers grasp the instrument controls below the display with wrists naturally positioned relative to his or her eyes. The technology seamlessly translates the surgeon’s movements into precise, real-time movements of the surgical instruments inside the patient.
The da Vinci System is a state-of-the-art surgical platform with 3D, high-definition vision and patented surgical instruments that takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand. By overcoming the challenges of traditional open and laparoscopic surgery, da Vinci is changing the experience of surgery for people around the world.
